If you do need to get the combination of heroku + godaddy + ssl to work including forwarding, then I recommend nakedssl.com which is free for 1 site and solved this problem for me.

Basically you delete your forwarding to www on godadddy, set your a record to the IP given to you on nakedSSL, and they manage the forwarding.
